Open Door Ministries celebrates 13 years of ministry 09.27.08!
Open Door Ministries was founded by Pastor Troy & Leanna Brewer as an extension of their reaching out to their local community. It started with one elderly lady who needed a roof put on her home and nobody to help her do it. Pastor Troy saw the opportunity to be 'Jesus with skin on' to her and volunteered to help. While planing this project Pastor Leanna noticed there was literally no food in her home so they went out and purchased enough groceries to last this precious lady for weeks to come.
Today, this type of food outreach is a bi-weekly event for ODM as they freely give away over 10,000 1bs of food to an average of 165 families, some 500+ people!
Not only does Open Door help the 'working poor' of Tarrant & Johnson County but they reach out to points all across the globe such as Mexico, Africa, India, Columbia, Brazil and England.
It is estimated that ODM has freely given away over 5 million pounds of food in 13 years.....but these are just numbers. What really matters are the children who for the 1st time in their lives have a Christmas gift or the families who are one paycheck away from living on the streets finding out there IS hope and things will not always be this way.
Pastor Troy and Leanna realize they could never have done all of this were it not for a congregation who values changed lives over a new cathedral. They also are so thankful for the donations of variousfood suppliers and individuals who keep the bi-weekly food outreach going.
Yes, for sure 13 is a good number because it represents 13 years of miracles, signs and wonders being done in so many ways it would be impossible to name them all.
